There were 38 homicide victims in South Australia during 2014, compared to 37 in 2013.
In South Australia during 2014:
Three in four homicide victims were male (78% or 29 victims); and
Nearly half of all homicide victims knew the offender (43% or 16 victims), with more than a third identifying the offender as a family member (38% or 14 victims).
There was a 14% increase in the number of sexual assault victims in South Australia, from 1,359 in 2013 to 1,545 in 2014.
In South Australia during 2014:
The majority of sexual assault victims were female (85% or 1,314 victims);
Over half of all sexual assault victims were aged 19 years and under (51% or 781 victims);
The most common location in which sexual assault occurred was a residential location (71% or 1,091 victims); and
Four in five victims of sexual assault knew the offender (80% or 1,236 victims), with over one in four victims (31% or 484 victims) identifying the offender as a family member.
There was a 5.3% decrease in the number of robbery victims in South Australia, from 778 in 2013 to a five year low of 737 in 2014.
In South Australia during 2014:
Nearly three in four person victims of robbery were male (73% or 435 victims);
The most common location in which robbery occurred was a street/footpath location (42% or 311 victims) followed by a retail location (30% or 219 victims); and
Of weapons used in a robbery, a knife was the most common (52% or 196 victims).
There was an 8.7% decrease in the number of motor vehicle theft victims in South Australia, from 3,636 in 2013 to a five year low of 3,319 in 2014. Nearly half of all stolen motor vehicles (49% or 1,610 victims) were stolen from a residential location, while just over a third (34% or 1,133 victims) were stolen from the street/footpath.
